Peregrines in South West England

Salisbury Cathedral: a public project with a long-running peregrine diary.

Salisbury Cathedral, Wiltshire

Start with the cathedral's peregrine project, which brings together the birds' history, camera and updates. Use a recent diary entry to decide whether to follow activity online or plan a visit.

A nest camera and the view from the ground show different things. The camera can reveal incubation or feeding; an outdoor watch may instead involve a bird resting high on the building or crossing the skyline. Neither guarantees activity while you are watching.

Before travelling

Check Salisbury's visitor information for opening, access and admission. Religious services and events take priority. Ask staff where outdoor watching is welcome and bring binoculars rather than seeking a closer vantage point.

Coastal watching elsewhere in the region

Treat a coastal trip as a general birdwatching walk, not a search for a nest ledge. Use marked paths, obey temporary closures and choose a viewpoint well back from an edge. This guide does not list undisclosed cliff nests.

If your starting point is Hampshire, compare Winchester and Chichester before choosing your route.
