Peregrines in South East England
Winchester and Chichester: cathedral projects in Hampshire and Sussex.
Winchester Cathedral, Hampshire
The cathedral's peregrine diary and camera give a useful first check before a visit. Read the latest dated entry: a bird visible on a camera may be out of sight from the ground.
Watch from permitted public areas and ask staff about current arrangements. Keep doorways and paths clear. A cathedral visit and an outdoor watch may have different admission arrangements; check the visitor information rather than assuming either is free.
Chichester Cathedral, West Sussex
The Chichester peregrine project provides cameras and seasonal updates. Its organised watching sessions can be useful for a first visit: volunteers may help you find a distant perched bird. Check the current programme before travelling; a previous year's timetable is not a booking.
Planning a southern outing
Choose one project and allow time to wait, rather than trying to fit both into a short watch. If you are travelling west from Hampshire, Salisbury is in our South West guide. For a broader introduction to the countryside around our home area, visit Wellow.Land.
