Peregrines in The Midlands

Derby Cathedral watchpoints and Nottingham peregrine cameras.

Derby Cathedral

Derby City Council's watching guide describes seasonal watchpoints on Cathedral Green, organised by Derbyshire Wildlife Trust. Check the linked project news for this year's dates before making a special journey.

A staffed watchpoint is a useful starting place if you have never used a telescope or picked out a bird high on a tower. Outside an advertised session, do not assume volunteers or equipment will be there. Keep the green and adjoining paths available to other visitors.

Nottingham

The Wildlife Trusts' webcam directory links to the Nottingham Trent University peregrine project through Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust. Follow the operator's page for the feed and any outages. This is an online watching option; a webcam listing is not permission to enter university buildings or approach the nest.

Which should you choose?

For help with an outdoor first watch, look for a confirmed Derby session. For close nest observations from home, try the Nottingham camera. Compare both projects' dated updates rather than assuming the birds are at the same stage of breeding.

Our seasonal guide explains why nesting activity changes through spring and summer.
